Tektronix 492

I bought a Tek 492 on eBay. This is a 50kHz-18GHz spectrum analyzer which was made by Tektronix in the early 1980's. There were a few major changes which can be distinguished by serial number. I have a mid-model (41000) unit made in 1981.

Initial Condition

The spectrum analyzer was received is good working condition. I took it apart and inspected all the modules that weren't blocks of aluminum (I checked out most of these later when the first mixer failed). The only problems I found were two capacitors (C4038 and C5038) on the span attenuator board which had leaked. One of them had dissolved one of its leads. I replaced these with new capacitors although the failure didn't seem to affect performance.
